Chemical Peels/Obagi Blue Peel

Chemical peels are acidic solutions that can be applied to your skin under the care of a board certified physician and licensed aesthetician. Administered correctly, a chemical (or series of peels) will smooth the surface of your skin, improve your skin tone and color, diminish wrinkles and shrink blood vessels and pore size. Dr. Sinha also offer microdermabrasion (milder exfoliation) and CO2 Laser Resurfacing (aggressive exfoliation). In addition, coblation therapy is also a new option.

Chemical Peel Procedure

Several types of peels are available. The light peel is made of glycolic acid solution in concentrations much stronger than those available in over-the-counter products containing alpha hydroxy acids. The medium peel goes deeper within the skin using a solution of trichloroacetic acid or TCA (The Obagi Blue Peel has dramatically improved the administration of this peel.)

The procedure is outpatient and most patients can drive themselves to and from this appointment. If a sedative is needed prior to the procedure, you must have a driver. The chemical solution is applied to the skin in the office for a short period of time and a mild burning sensation usually follows.

Recovery from Chemical Peel

A light peel of glycolic solution will leave your face red, but most likely it will not peel. A TCA peel causes your facial skin to turn white shortly after administered. By the next day your skin will turn red and then start to peel off. The skin will scab over and then reveal healthier, new skin. The recovery time usually takes about two weeks, and make-up needs to be avoided during this time. Discomfort is minimal and can be managed with Tylenol.

Making a Decision

It is important to consult with your doctor to be sure that chemical peels are appropriate for your skin type. We offer a complimentary consultation to provide education, discuss recommendation to achieve your goals, and assistance with your financial investment. Please contact our patient consultant, Lisa DeGirolamo to schedule your complimentary visit.

Investment

The cost of the procedure varies depending on each individuals needs, the type of peel and the number of treatments. Chemical peels typically range from $100 - $900 per treatment.
