Gravity is the enemy of youth. If you look at a young person you will notice that the face often appears full in the middle. When we are born, our midface is very chubby, and begins to droop in the third decade. Part of this aging is a result of the sagging of the facial fat pads. These are structures that in youth are located high in the cheeks, but as we age, they begin to descend. This causes sagging or a gaunt appearance and makes us look older. There are multiple ways to lift the sagging midfacial structures ranging from cheekbone implants to midface lifting procedures.
Endoscopic Midface Lift Procedure
The midface lift is performed by placing a small incision in the temple area, above the ear, and behind the hairline. An additional incision is placed inside the mouth. The sagging facial fat pad is then freed and elevated to a more youthful position and secured with special sutures.
Recovery from Endoscopic Midface Lift
The midfacelift procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia in an accredited and licensed ambulatory surgical center. Patients are usually discharged the same day to a responsible party. You cannot drive yourself home after surgery. A pressure dressing is applied for the first couple of days. Sutures are usually removed after one week. Mild bruising, numbness, and swelling are sometimes seen, however this usually resolves within the first two weeks. Most patients return to normal activity within the first week. The small incisions usually heal extremely well. As with any surgical procedure, our staff will assist you in preparing to minimize swelling and bruising postoperatively, and our esthetician will help you with camouflage make-up during the second week.
