Midface Lift
Gravity is the enemy of youth. Unfortunately, the midface begins to droop in the third decade of our lives, surrendering the full, plump midface that is synonymous with youth. Part of this drooping in the midface is a result of the sagging of the facial fat pads. These are structures that in youth are located high in the cheeks, but as we age, descend from their lifted position. Lowered facial fat pads cause a sagging or gaunt appearance that makes us look older.
Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery offers multiple ways to lift the sagging midfacial structures, such as cheekbone implants, facelift surgery, and the endoscopic midface lift. Contact us for your confidential consultation at Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery, and discover which midface cosmetic surgery procedure best fits your aesthetic goals.
Midface Lift Procedure
The midface lift can be performed endoscopically (using a small device with a lighted camera attached) or may require slightly longer incisions to lift a larger area of the midface. In either case, Dr. Sinha takes great care to ensure all scars will be well hidden either in the natural folds surrounding the ears or in the hairline.
An endoscopic midface lift is performed by placing a small incision (typically less than 2 cm) in the temple area, above the ear, and behind the hairline. An additional incision is placed inside the mouth. The sagging facial fat pad is then freed and elevated to a more youthful position and secured with special sutures. Whether each midface lift is done endoscopically or not, Dr. Sinha customizes the procedure to each patient’s face. From mini-lifts to full facelifts, this tailored approach is standard at the Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery in order to achieve the most beautiful and natural-looking results.
Recovery from Midface Lift
The midface lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited and licensed ambulatory surgical center adjacent to Dr. Sinha’s Atlanta office. Patients are usually discharged the same day to a responsible party. You cannot drive yourself home after any facelift surgery. A pressure dressing is applied for the first couple of days. Sutures are usually removed one week after midface cosmetic surgery. Mild bruising, numbness, and swelling sometimes occur, however this usually resolves within the first two weeks.
Most patients return to normal activity within the first week following midface lift surgery. The small incisions typically heal extremely well. As with any surgical procedure, the Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery staff will assist you in preparing to minimize swelling and bruising postoperatively, and an aesthetician will help you with camouflage make-up during the second week after surgery.
Making a Decision for Midface lift
The decision to proceed with midface lift surgery requires planning. As with our other facial cosmetic surgery procedures, we offer a comprehensive consultation to those who are considering a midface lift. These consultations provide patients with education, individualized procedure recommendations in line with personal medical history, computer imaging to communicate results visually, and assistance with the financial investment of the midface lift.
Consultations can determine whether a midface lift is the ideal surgery for your needs, or if your facial aesthetic goals would be better served by a facelift , cheek implants, a non-surgical facelift alternative, or another cosmetic plastic surgery procedure.
