Laser Vein Removal

The appearance of veins on the skin can be disturbing. The legs, arms, and particularly around the nose are common areas for prominent veins. These are often known as telangectasia (tee-lan-jec-tay-jee-ah).

The laser treatment works by targeting a specific pigment found in all blood vessels, hemoglobin. The laser emits a pulse of energy that is specifically absorbed by hemoglobin. Thus, large amounts of laser energy can be directed specifically towards the veins and “collapse” the vessels immediately to eliminate the vessels.

Laser Procedure

The treatment is performed in a medical office under the supervision of a board certified surgeon. Treatment is of course, outpatient and a small amount of bruising from collapse of the vein may occur. Multiple treatments are required because our blood contains factors to open closed blood vessels. This is good for our overall health but can make cosmetic vein removal a bit more challenging.

Different Lasers are used for different colored veins. Blue and black veins are removed using a diode laser. The LightSheer XC laser is FDA approved for laser removal. Red veins are best removed using an Intense Pulsed Light system such as the VascuLight SR or with an Nd:YAG Laser. Due to the fact that we own rather than occassionally rent these lasers, we are able to accomodate our patients any day of the week including some weekend days!

Laser Vein Treatment is not covered by health insurance, and is considered cosmetic in nature. The treatments are priced by individual treatment and also offered in packaged pricing. The cost of the procedure varies depending on each individual’s needs, area to be treated and the number of treatments needed. Fees typically range from $350 - $3,000.
