Financing & Insurance
Financing the surgery
As you make your decision about whether to undergo plastic surgery, cost is always a consideration. Two important areas to address are whether your health insurance will cover the procedure, and if not, what your options are in terms of financing the surgery.
When plastic surgery is “reconstructive,” meaning it corrects a functional impairment (due to congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, injuries, disease, etc.), insurance may cover a portion of or the entire cost of treatment. Reconstructive procedures often covered by insurance include:
- Upper blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)
- Rhinoplasty/Septoplasty (to improve functioning of the nose)
- Facial fractures
However, cosmetic plastic surgery—which is performed solely for enhancing physical appearance and is not medically necessary—is generally not covered by health care policies.
The staff at the Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery can help you determine whether all or part of your surgery can be covered by your insurance. We also recommend you consult with your provider directly to see what they will and won’t cover.
