What Should I Know About My Juvederm Provider?
The Juvéderm Difference
Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler,
just like its less sophisticated, older counterparts. However, the
critical difference between this newer gel-based product and earlier
versions is its long-lasting nature. This last-generation dermal filler
can last up to a year with a single injection.
Juvéderm is different in its material make-up as well. It's
manufactured using HYLACROSS™, which creates a smooth-consistency gel,
making it perhaps the most similar consistency to facial tissue yet. The
gel does not clump together easily, which allows for an even and
natural-looking application. In short, Juvéderm provides you with smooth
skin and plump lips.
This newer version of Juvéderm (Ultra Plus XC) is also infused with
lidocaine, a temporary numbing agent to improve comfort during
treatment. With the new Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC, you get incredibly
smooth, natural-looking skin with improved comfort.

Restore Your Skin’s Youthful Appearance
At the Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery, Dr. Sinha
often uses Juvéderm in combination with other injectables — such as
Botox, Restylane and Perlane for a complete, zero downtime facelift
Like Restylane, Juvéderm smooths out and fills wrinkles around the
mouth and nose, delivering natural-looking results and restoring your
face to a more youthful appearance. Juvéderm is completely
biocompatible, so no skin test is necessary.
Juvéderm is an excellent choice for many patients with overly
pronounced smile lines or parentheses (also known as nasolabial folds),
the creases that run from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the
mouth. It's also often the best dermal filler for lip augmentation due
to its soft, gel consistency.
Juvéderm injections can effectively target:
- Overly pronounced nasolabial folds (marionette lines)
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Hollow, thinning skin
- Skin irregularities
What to Expect from Your Juvéderm Treatment
Is Juvéderm a Painful Treatment?
filler injections are performed by our highly trained medical experts,
using very fine needling. The level of discomfort varies from patient to
patient, with some people reporting feeling more pain than others.
Our highly skilled specialists will walk you through the procedure,
so you know exactly what to expect. Furthermore, a numbing agent can
also be applied to the area before your appointment, for a more
comfortable Juvéderm experience.
Recovery from a Juvéderm injection is usually immediate. Side
effects such as redness or pain at the injection site are rare and
typically subside within three days.
If you are taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs, you may experience increased bruising at the injection site. If possible, we recommend talking to your prescribing doctor about discontinuing these medications before the facial injections are performed.

Rejuvenate With Radiesse
Radiesse® is a dermal filler that helps restore the skin's collagen in facial areas that have begun to wrinkle and sag. Unlike direct collagen injections, which last about three months, Radiesse is an injectable that delivers results for approximately an entire year (though results vary).
At its elemental level, Radiesse is not collagen at all, but rather an aqueous gel carrier blended with spherical particles of synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA). The gel carrier suspends the CaHA particles and allows them to be delivered through injection needles. The facial filler's key compound, calcium hydroxylapatite, is identical in composition to the mineral portion of human bone, thus making it exceptionally compatible for wrinkle treatment in the body. Calcium hydroxylapatite has been used for decades in cosmetic plastic surgery, orthopedics, otology, otolaryngology, neurosurgery, dentistry, maxillofacial surgery, and urology because of its high bio-compatibility.
Radiesse injections are virtually painless, thanks to the recent addition of a numbing agent into the solution. Injections takes place in our office and can be completed in a matter of minutes. Results of Radiesse can last as long as a year for some patients after just one treatment.
Redness, swelling, itching or tenderness may occur at the site of injection. These side effects generally disappear within a few days. You may also experience some small lumps in the injection areas, but these resolve quickly. Please contact us to schedule your consultation.
Sculptra® is a facial filler (also known as a dermal filler) made up of poly-L-lactic acid that helps facilitate the replacement of lost collagen by adding facial volume to gaunt or hollowed-out areas. Dr. Sinha uses Sculptra to provide a gradual increase in thickness and facial volume for a more youthful look.
Sculptra is unique because it stimulates the skin and works with the body to make more of its natural support structure by acting as "fertilizer" for the collagen. Sculptra is bio-compatible, meaning it's recognized as natural by the body, and biodegradable (can be broken down by the body).
Sculptra can be used on the cheeks, midface, temples and around the eyes for age-defying results.
About Sculptra Fillers
The number of injections and amount of Sculptra needed vary among individuals and will be evaluated and discussed during the consultation. Unlike other dermal fillers, Sculptra does not bear immediate visible effects. Instead, Sculptra stimulates collagen production over a series of facial injections.
The effects of Sculptra are subtle, and injections are typically completed in 3 sessions about 4-6 weeks apart. After each treatment, the skin produces more of its own natural collagen. Results typically last about 2 years.
Mild swelling may occur at the injection site, but typically subsides within two days. As with all procedures, our staff is available for questions throughout the treatment process. The Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery offers a comprehensive consultation in order to provide education and tailored recommendations.

Who is a good candidate for Sculptra?
What can I expect during my initial consultation?
What can I expect during my Sculptra treatment?
What are the risks involved with Sculptra treatments?
The most common side effects after initial treatment include injection site swelling, tenderness, redness, pain, bruising, bleeding, itching and lumps. Other side effects may include small lumps under the skin that are sometimes noticeable when pressing on the treated area. Larger lumps, some with delayed onset with or without inflammation or skin discoloration, have also been reported.
Sculptra should not be used by people that are allergic to any ingredient of the product or who have a history of irregular scarring. Sculptra shouldn't be used at the site of skin sores, acne, cysts, rashes, or other skin inflammation.
Recovery and Results
Most people return to their normal activities immediately after Sculptra injections. Swelling, bruising, and other side effects are usually mild and subside within a few days. Doing the following will help speed along your recovery:
- Apply a cold pack to the affected area for a few minutes at a time within the first 24 hours.
- Following treatment, massage the area for five minutes at a time, five times a day, for five days.
- Avoid excessive sunlight or tanning beds until any redness and swelling has resolved.
Results are gradual, and it may take a few weeks to see the full effects of Sculptra. Results last up to two years.
What can I expect to pay for Sculptra treatments?
The total cost of your Sculptra treatments will depend on several factors, including:
- number of treatment visits required
- geographic location
- number of vials of Sculptra used
Generally, the average cost of Sculptra per vial is approximately $900. It should be noted that Sculptra isn't covered by health insurance. This is due to the fact that insurance companies don't regard cosmetic procedures as medically necessary. The only exceptions are when Sculptra is used to treat skin changes from HIV or lipoatrophy.
However, you should always choose your surgeon based on quality, training, and experience - not cost.
Lip Fillers & Injections
Who is a good candidate for lip fillers?
You may be a good candidate for lip fillers if you:
- Are physically healthy
- Don't smoke
- Have a positive outlook and realistic goals in mind for the improvement of your appearance
- Are committed to maintaining good skin health
What is the cost for lip fillers?
The cost of lip filler injections vary based on the expertise and qualifications of the person performing the treatment, the type of procedure used, time and effort the procedure or treatment requires, as well as the geographic location of the office. When choosing a plastic surgeon for lip filler injections, remember that the surgeon's experience and your comfort with him or her are just as important as the final cost of the procedure.
Health insurance does not cover lip fillers, but many plastic surgeons offer patient financing plans, so be sure to ask.
Why Do You Need a Consultation First?
A private, one-on-one consultation should be the first phase of any cosmetic procedure. This meeting is your opportunity to talk to your doctor, learn about their approach and ask questions about anything that concerns you. Even though a lip augmentation with injectables is a non-surgical procedure, that doesn't mean you shouldn't take it seriously. After all, you are thinking about altering your appearance, which is a major decision.
It's not only important to be clear about your expectations before getting your procedure, but also to discuss side effects and see examples of a doctor's past work. Yes, you'll do a lot of research and read a lot of reviews before getting lip injections, but that is not a replacement for having a sit-down conversation with your doctor.
If a doctor offers to inject your lips without a thorough and transparent consultation, you should walk away. Why? Injecting lips is both an art and a science, which should be one of your main takeaways from this post. Even if someone is a medical doctor, that doesn't necessarily mean they have the necessary expertise to perform lip injections.
Though anyone with medical training can legally do injections, it's best to choose a talented cosmetic surgeon who has received board certification and has plenty of experience doing lip injections. The consultation, again, is the time to ask about your doctor's credentials and view before-and-after photos to make sure your aesthetic philosophy matches up.
Size Matters – But It’s Not the Only Factor
As you have already realized, some lip augmentations look totally natural…and others, well, don't. One reason is how large you and your doctor decide to go, but there are other factors at play, too. What it boils down to is that some doctors have a finer attention to detail than others.
There's a lot more involved in lip injections than just plumping and filling. And it's not a cookie-cutter procedure, either; a good cosmetic surgeon will take each patient's facial proportions into account to preserve balance among the features. Your doctor should be willing to work with the configuration of your mouth to achieve your cosmetic goals.
Selecting where, and at what volume, to inject the lips is also an important decision to make in the consultation. Sometimes, only one lip needs to be filled, sometimes both, and often at different volumes, since not everyone's mouth is perfectly symmetrical.
Where to inject is another aspect a talented doctor will take into account. For example, injecting the filler into the lips creates fullness, while injections along the lip line create definition.
What type of filler to use is one additional factor to consider. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are the best option for lip injections, but there are several different formulas available, and your doctor will need to pick the one that is best to create the desired results for you.
With age, the lips become progressively thinner, losing their fullness and voluptuous shape. While both the upper and lower lips can be affected, for most people, the thinning is particularly prominent in the upper lip.
Lip enhancement is an in-office treatment in which a dermal filler is injected to plump up the lips, restoring a more youthful appearance. The upper or lower lip may be treated alone, or both lips may enlarge at the same time. Juvéderm® is often the best dermal filler for lip enhancement due to its soft, gel consistency and easy flow. While a temporary treatment, it is extremely safe and effective, enhancing lip size for about one year on average.
The procedure takes just minutes to perform, requiring only a topical anesthetic or nerve block to prevent discomfort during the injection. Using a fine needle, Juvéderm is injected to a specific depth beneath the skin of the lip. Below the dermis (inner layer of the skin), the dermal filler binds with water and the naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in the body, resulting in increased volume in the lips.
After the procedure, very little, if any, recovery time is needed. Patients may experience some swelling, redness and numbness, but generally only for about 24 hours. Most patients can immediately return to their normal routine following the procedure.
Risks and Safety
Severe complications from lip fillers are uncommon. Potential risks vary depending on the specific filler used and the relative permanence of the filler substance and include:
Bruising, bleeding from the injection site, swelling
Damage to the skin that results in a wound and possible scarring
Infection at the injection site
Palpability of the filler under the surface of the skin
Skin rash with itching
These risks and others will be fully discussed prior
to your consent. It is important that you address all your questions
with Dr. Sinha. Although good results are expected from your procedure,
there is no guarantee that you will be satisfied with your results.
Because complications can occur from lip filler injections, it is important to be in the care of a board-certified plastic surgeon who understands the risks and is trained and prepared to deal with any complications that may occur.
The first step, as we already mentioned, is to do
your homework - and a large part of that is deciding how large you
realistically want your lips to be after the procedure. If you know you
want a dramatic, immediate difference, ask your doctor about your
Most qualified cosmetic surgeons will caution you to stay away from the "overfilled" look in favor of a more natural appearance. If your goal is more pronounced results, the best approach may be to step up the size gradually over the course of a few weeks or months.
Avoid taking aspirin, Motrin, Aleve, fish oil, multivitamins and vitamin E for about a week before your procedure. These products all thin the blood, which can lead to post-injection bruising.
Because hyaluronic acid is a biocompatible product,
your body will eventually reabsorb it over time. As a result, lip
fillers aren't permanent; most last six months to a year, depending on
how quickly your body metabolizes the formula. If you love your look and
want to keep it, you'll need to be prepared to maintain the results
with touch-up treatments.
If you eventually decide to stop getting injections, your lips will return to their original state. However, the hyaluronic acid may trigger natural collagen production at the injection site, which could result in lips naturally retaining some volume due to the previous injections.
Lip injections are an in-office treatment that takes
about 30 minutes. After you get your lip injections, you should be able
to go back to your normal activities.
Side effects such as redness or pain at the injection site are rare and usually subside within three days. If you experience swelling or soreness, you can place ice packs on your lips.
