What Are Laser Skin Treatments?

Laser skin treatments use advanced light-based technology to rejuvenate the skin, remove imperfections, and stimulate collagen production for long-term improvement. Whether you’re seeking to smooth fine lines, reduce acne scars, or brighten dull skin, laser therapy can help you achieve healthier, more youthful skin without surgery.

At the Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery, we offer multiple laser technologies—including fractional CO2, erbium, and IPL—to personalize your treatment and deliver visible, lasting results.

What Skin Conditions Can Be Treated?

Fine lines and wrinkles

Acne scars and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

Uneven pigmentation and sunspots
Melasma and age-related discoloration

Rough, uneven texture

Rosacea and visible capillaries

Types of Laser Treatments We Offer

CO2 Fractional Laser

Best for deep wrinkles, scars, and dramatic skin renewal

CO2 lasers are the most aggressive form of laser skin resurfacing, ideal for patients with advanced signs of aging or extensive sun damage. Using a fractionated beam, it targets both surface damage and deep dermal layers, triggering collagen renewal and skin tightening.

Treatment Highlights:

Erbium Laser Resurfacing

Ideal for fine lines and mild to moderate imperfections

Erbium lasers offer a gentler approach with faster recovery than CO2. It’s best for superficial resurfacing and patients who want effective rejuvenation without extended downtime.

Treatment Highlights:

Non-Ablative Laser Treatments

Gentle resurfacing with little to no downtime
Unlike ablative lasers, non-ablative treatments don’t remove the top layer of skin. Instead, they heat the underlying tissue to boost collagen production gradually over time. These are perfect for patients seeking low-downtime improvement or ongoing skin maintenance.

Treatment Highlights:

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Therapy

Targets pigmentation and redness for a brighter complexion
While technically not a laser, IPL uses broad-spectrum light to treat hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, and redness. Also called a photofacial, IPL is a favorite for those with sun-damaged skin or rosacea.

What to Expect During Treatment

Consultation & Skin Assessment

During your consultation, Dr. Pradeep Sinha or a certified laser specialist will evaluate your skin type, tone, and concerns. Based on your goals, we’ll recommend a customized treatment plan using the appropriate laser or combination of modalities.

We may also prepare your skin with a pre-treatment regimen (especially for patients with melanin-rich skin) to minimize risks of pigmentation changes.

Consultation & Skin Assessment

Most treatments are performed in-office under topical anesthesia. CO2 and erbium lasers may require light sedation or local anesthesia, depending on the depth of treatment. Sessions typically last 30–90 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

Recovery & Downtime Guide

Recovery varies by laser type:

Laser Type Downtime Common After-Effects
CO2 Fractional 5–10 days Redness, swelling, peeling, sun sensitivity
Erbium 3–5 days Mild redness, flaking, tightness
Non-Ablative None to 1 day Temporary redness or warmth
IPL None to 1 day Mild redness, darkening of pigment before fading

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the laser and your goals. Some patients see results after one session, especially with CO2, while others may need 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart for optimal improvement.
Mild discomfort may occur. We apply topical numbing cream and/or local anesthetic to keep you comfortable. CO2 lasers may require more downtime but offer deeper correction.
Results begin to appear as soon as your skin heals—typically within 5–7 days for ablative lasers and sooner for non-ablative. Your skin will continue to improve for up to 6 months due to collagen remodeling.
